VDOT Salem District is seeking an Assistant Environmental Manager responsible for supervision and oversight of the Natural Resources and Environmental Commitments and Performance Programs. This position supports compliance efforts by providing complex technical assistance and policy interpretation, providing recommendations to evaluate environmental compliance, and ensuring VDOT activities avoid, minimize, or mitigate negative environmental impacts and adhere to federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations and policies. This manager ensures quality assurance of environmental work deliverables and provides support to meet project deliverables and due dates. Provides recommendations and solutions to procedural, policy, or contractual matters related to environmental, and facilitates resolution of complex environmental issues by ensuring follow-through and closure in solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
•Knowledge of federal and Commonwealth environmental laws, regulations, and
practices.
•Ability to review, critique and interpret plans, contracts, special provisions, and
specifications.
•Skill in gathering and analyzing data to make environmental recommendations.
•Experience in wetland delineation and permitting.
•Ability to supervise the work of others and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•Ability to plan and schedule diverse work unit priorities.
•Ability to use computers and complex software applications.
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
•Experience providing technical presentations and facilitating meetings with diverse
stakeholders.
•Valid Driver's License and the ability to travel independently to assigned workplaces.
Additional Considerations
•Progressively responsible experience managing staff performing environmental
functions.
•Experienced budget manager of financial resource allocations and technical data.
•Experience overseeing multiple environmental programs concurrently.
•Department of Environmental Quality Dual Inspector (DI).
•Knowledge of roadway and associated asset construction techniques.
•Experience performing environmental monitoring and inspection of construction activities.
•Ability to work at times outside of normal work hours, in diverse weather conditions, and to independently traverse varying complexities of terraine.
